Guoda, Video: 25:00 (looped)

This video depicts the gradual development of a Polaroid portrait of a young Lithuanian girl named Guoda. The image appears slowly as the chemicals embedded in the Polaroid develop, and then the portrait gradually disappears again. By recording the development of a Polaroid, a product originally intended to make photography more instantaneous, the still image has become a time-based art form. This union of still and moving imagery, along with the combination of digital and analog processes, challenges notions about the nature of photography as a tool for capturing a moment in time.
